Poetry

Do Not Seek Happiness

Do not seek happiness
you will not find it
happiness is for children
who cling to toys
and are given hugs
at exactly the right time.

Do not seek happiness.

It belongs to flowers
that bloom and die in small increments
of time
to new mothers
whose bodies tether out
sons and daughters.

Do not seek happiness.

It is only given
to fledgling birds
and the dying.
